* Noun “míng cí”(名詞) |
There is no singular and plural form of the noun. To indicate a number of a noun, a classifier must be added in front of that noun. For example, 一個人“yí gè rén” means a person, 兩個人 “liɑ̌ng gè rén ” means two persons and so on. |
* Pronunciation When a third tone is followed by another third tone, the first third tone changes into the second tone. For example, we pronounce nǐ hɑ̌o as ní hɑ̌o. Read: kě yǐ měi hɑ̌o wǔ bɑ̌i gěi nǐ yǔ fɑ ̌ hěn hɑ̌o |
3. The Chinese Putonghua has four basic tones. They are shown by the tone- marks: ˉ (the first tone), ˊ (the second tone), ˇ ( the third tone ), ˋ ( the forth tone ). |
4. We should pay attention to the note which is different tones may express different meaning. For example: bā: 八(eight); bá: 拔(pull); bǎ: 靶(target); bà: 爸(father). |
