We use the word “過” to describe events happened in the past. As mentioned before, we will use the word “沒有”  to express a negative meaning.  However, to emphasis something that we have not done, we use the word “hɑ́i méi yǒu” (還沒有)  to express that sense instead.  Sometimes, “hɑ́i méi yǒu” (還沒有)  can imply that one is going to do something in the future. 

Sentence pattern --
Positive: Subject + verb + “guò” (過) + object.
e.g.我去過海洋公園。 wǒ qù guò hɑ̌i yɑ́ng gōng yuɑ́n
I have been to Ocean Park.
Negative: Subject + “méi yǒu” (沒有) + verb + “guò” (過) + object.
e.g. 我沒有去過海洋公園。 wǒ méi yǒu qù guò hɑ̌i yɑ́ng gōng yuɑ́n
I haven’t been to Ocean Park.
Question form –
Subject + “yǒu méi yǒu” (有沒有) + verb + “guò” (過) + object?
e.g. 你有沒有去過海洋公園?  nǐ yǒu méi yǒu qù guò hɑ̌i yɑ́ng gōng yuɑ́n?
