*Sentence pattern: “Since…” “既然……” gei3 jin4 …… |
| Sometimes, we will use the word “ 既然 ” to tell the fact. There is a sentence pattern in Chinese for doing that. It is“ 既然……， 就 ……”. This sentence pattern is different from the sentence pattern “ 如果……，就 ……” although they look like the same. For the pattern “ 既然……，就 ……”，the meaning of the second clause is controlled by the first clause. There is a cause-and-result relationship between them. |
Example: 既然到了一個國家，就應購買一些當地的紀念品留為紀念。 Once we are in a new country, we should buy some sovereigns. |
