How to read Chinese character: |
Words with Articles and Classifiers.

---|
In Chinese, an article or a number 數目(shù mù) and classifier 量詞(liɑ̀ng cí) always come before the word to form a noun phrase. We have learnt these in unit 1 and unit 2 respectively, e.g. 一日,三個月. When a classifier comes before the word, the word is usually a common noun. A noun phrase with a number only always causes misunderstanding. For example, we may misunderstand 三月 by “ three months” instead of “ the third Month(March)”, but we are very sure that the meaning of 三個月 is “ the third month” . |
